NASA x ECLIPSE SOUNDSCAPES
The Eclipse Soundscapes Project is a NASA Citizen Science initiative studying how eclipses affect life on Earth during the October 14, 2023, annular solar eclipse and the April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse. The project has collected extensive sound data during these events and seeks to engage blind and low-vision users as “Data Analysts” for sound tagging using the Zooniverse platform, which is recognized for its accessibility features.
The project explores how to evaluate Zooniverse’s compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) while identifying alternative platforms that also prioritize accessibility. The goal is to seamlessly integrate Zooniverse (or an alternative) with EclipseSoundscapes.org, fostering meaningful engagement for students and Data Analysts with disabilities.
